AUTISM TN

Autism Tennessee maintains a list of all support groups available in Middle Tennessee for autistic individuals and their family members.

Autism TN Connnect (for Adults)

Autism TN Connect is for Autistic adults 18+, including those who are self-diagnosed.  The group meets monthly and offers a variety of activities.  The Unveiling Autistic Identity Group meets via Zoom on the first Wednesday of the month.  It is for people discovering their autistic identity later in life. The Spectrum Connection is a group created by individuals on the spectrum, for LGBTQIA+ Autistic adults, and is member-led with the support of a queer Autism TN employee.

AUTISM PROCESS AND SUPPORT GROUP

This is a virtual group for adults led by Rachel Hammons, LPC-MHSP.  This group meets on the 4th Thursday of every month from 4-5pm.  The main purpose of this group is to provide support, a safe place to talk, and resources for the adult ASD community.  The cost is $50 per group.

EMPOWER TN

Empower TN is middle Tennessee’s center for independent living. Their independent living resources include technology courses, employment programs and  braille service. They provide accessibility consultations to businesses, churches, and schools. 

They also have peer group support which meets virtually. Empowered ladies meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 2-3:30pm.  Empowered Gents meets on the 1st Thursday of the month from 4-5:30pm.  The monthly support group for LGBTIA+ Adults with Disabilities is in-person or on zoom on the 3rd Thursday of each month, 12:30-2:30pm.

FAIR WINDS WAY

The providers at Fair Winds Way can evaluate and diagnose Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Disorder.  They offer individual therapy, play therapy, and group therapy for young children through adults.  Groups offered in the past include social skills groups, sibling support groups, and young women’s social and life skills groups.  They can also do in-school visits.  They are in network with several different insurance companies.

FAMILY VOICES OF TENNESSEE

Family Voices of Tennessee is a program of the Tennessee Disability Coalition.  

Family Voices offers 4 different programs:

​Family to Family- Support, information, resources and training to parents of children with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and special health care needs. 

PEARS- Connects families of children who are D/deaf, Hard of Hearing, or have hearing issues with Parent Guides. 

Parent to Parent- connects families of children with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and special health care needs with Parent Mentors.

Youth to Youth- connects youth with Peer Mentors and also offers self-advocacy bootcamps.

LATE DIAGNOSED AUTISM SUPPORT GROUP

This is a virtual group led by Rayne Satterfield, LCSW, at The Self Care Spot.  Participants will learn about Autism, gain support, discuss challenges and successes, and learn skills to help manage life in a Neurotypical world. This group meets every other Wednesday from 12-1pm and costs $50 per session.

Long hollow is offering a group that for moms of children or adults with special needs on Wednesdays at 6:30pm in person with an option to join online.

RISING ABOVE MINISTRIES

Rising Above Ministries is a faith-based organization to provide encouragement to special-needs families around the world.  They provide online community groups, Moms groups, Dads groups, and retreat experiences in Middle Tennessee. They also offer downloadable small group resources as well as special needs ministry training workshops for churches.

SPECIAL NEEDS COMMUNITY SUPPORT GROUP AT GODWHY CHURCH

GodWhy Church hosts this support group as a “safe place to share” for special needs families anywhere along their journey.  Meetings are held from 4:30-6pm on the last Sunday of the month.  No registration is required and childcare is provided.

SPOTLIGHT THERAPY & ENRICHMENT SERVICES

Spotlight Therapy offers mobile therapy services including feeding therapy, speech and language therapy, and occupational therapy.  They also offer handwriting tutoring and parent support groups.  Their Sensory Processing Disorder Support Group is virtual.  They accept individuals ages 3 months through adult and take private pay.

SUMNER COUNTY FRIENDS OF DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCATION OF MIDDLE TN

The Sumner County Friends meet for Coffee Talk on the second Friday of every month at 9am at Kave.

TENNESSEE ADULT BROTHERS AND SISTERS (TABS)

TABS is a support and networking group for adult siblings of people with disabilities.  It is Tennessee’s chapter of the national Sibling Leadership Network.  It is led by the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities and the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center.  TABS offers a FB page, speakers for group events, monthly “TABS Chats” for siblings via Zoom, and events for young siblings (ages 8-13) called SibShips.

THE ARC TENNESSEE- PEER SUPPORT ACADEMY

One of The Arc Tennessee's programs is Peer Support Academy, in which individuals with disabilities are paired with Peer Mentors.  They provide support and training for the Peer Mentors.

TN CAREGIVER COALITION

TN Caregiver Coalition (formerly the TN Respite Coalition) offers the Family Directed Respite Voucher program, which aims to help defray some of the cost of respite to family caregivers. It encourages families to be in control of and empowered to use respite as it meets their needs. The Statewide Respite Helpline number is 1-888-579-3754. 

TCC also offers a Caregiver Peer Support Group on the 4th Monday of each month at 6pm.

TN VOICES

TN Voices offers a wide-range of mental health and family support services at no cost. They help parents and caregivers navigate complicated systems within the school, court, and mental health systems. They also provide care coordination and resource connection for the whole family. They also support educators and caregivers with trainings, consultation services, and technical assistance. Many families reach out to them for education advocacy. They also offer parenting and prevention classes. Their services can be accessed virtually or in-person, depending on the program.

Additionally, they offer individual and family counseling, case management services, psychiatric, and medication management services virtually statewide and in-person at our Goodlettsville office. They serve ages 3+. They take TennCare, some commercial insurances, and have a sliding scale fee depending on financial or situational hardship. For those who are uninsured or underinsured, they offer the Behavioral Safety Net Grant to access our services at no cost.
