RESPITE CARE

Respite care is temporary care that provides relief for the usual caregiver(s). 

BUDDY BREAK AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH HENDERSONVILLE

First Baptist Hendersonville hosts a Buddy Break on the 2nd Friday of every month from 6:30-9:30pm.

EMPOWER ME CENTER

Empower Me offers Day Camps (ages 5-21) which are weeklong during the summer and one day during the year, Respite Events for ages 5 and up, Recreational Programs, and Educational Programs. 

Their Adult Program for age 18+ is called Day Dreamers and currently meets Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, thought they will be expanding to all weekdays soon.  The Day Dreamers participate in weekly activities which assist with social and life skills.

MY HAPPY PLACE CENTER

My Happy Place provides a safe and structured environment for adults with disabilities, including those with higher support needs.  They offer part-time, full-time, and drop-in options to assist caregivers with respite needs.  Hours are M-F 8am-4pm.  Additional respite events happen after hours.

NATHANIEL'S HOPE BUDDY BREAK

Our Lady of the Lake hosts this parent’s day out/respite program for kids with special needs and their siblings.  They usually occur for 3 hours on a Friday night or Saturday morning and are free.

TN CAREGIVER COALITION 

TN Caregiver Coalition (formerly the TN Respite Coalition) offers the Family Directed Respite Voucher program, which aims to help defray some of the cost of respite to family caregivers. It encourages families to be in control of and empowered to use respite as it meets their needs. The Statewide Respite Helpline number is 1-888-579-3754. 

TCC also offers a Caregiver Peer Support Group on the 4th Monday of each month at 6pm and a Caring in Color Support Group on the 1st Tuesday of the month virtually.

WE ROCK THE SPECTRUM

We Rock the Spectrum is a gym for children of all abilities and features 12 pieces of sensory equipment. They offer open play, classes, after school care, and parents' night out respite events.

YMCA FULL CIRCLE PROGRAM

​The YMCA Full Circle Program is just getting started at the Sumner County YMCA.  Spring 2025 classes include a dance class and a fitness class. These classes are for adults, including adults, with intellectual or developmental disabilities.  All activities are free for YMCA members. Adaptive swim lessons are now being offered to children and adults.  Email mbrown@ymcamidtn.org for more information.
