ABOUT US

OUR MISSION

The mission of the Sumner County Special Needs Collaborative (SCSNC) is to improve the livability of Sumner County for individuals with special needs, disabilities, or neurodivergence.  We do this through providing information and education about rights and resources, supporting professionals in the field, and building community.  We aim to partner individuals with special needs, families, and professionals in the field together for a collaborative approach.

OUR HISTORY

SCSNC was founded in June 2020 by the mother of a child with medical needs and Autism.   After enduring a long road between knowing her son had challenges and him actually getting the help he needed, she resolved to use her degree in social work to advocate for change to make this road shorter for other families.

SCSNC was chartered as a nonprofit organization with the state of Tennessee in September 2020. and is a 501(c)3 nonprofit.  SCSNC is run by a Board of Directors made up of volunteers.  We have no paid staff, so you can know your donations are being used directly toward the mission.

WHAT WE DO

Take a look at our Events Page to see what we've done in the past as well as what is planned for the near future.

Some of our long-term goals are to increase awareness of special needs and related resources locally, engage the local disability community, and advocate for change on a county level. Some of our upcoming projects include interviewing the school board candidates about special education, making a printed copy of our local resource directory which will be available at various locations, and providing adaptive clothing to students in local schools.

We try our best to keep our website up to date with the most recent information, but this website should not be taken as medical, legal, or therapeutic advice or take the place of those services. We don't endorse any particular resource over another.
